This surprise proposal in Flagstaff, Arizona is not one you want to miss. Nick surprised Anna with a couples’ session with me (not suspicious, as we’re bffs), but the real surprise was a proposal! We took these photos on the drive up to Snow Bowl, and the real magic happened once we got to the top!
Rather than me tell you all about it, I thought it’d be best if Anna told the story from her point of view!
♡
“As you witnessed, Nick and I were packing our apartment to move across the state the day of the shoot! In fact, you did our dishes while I put on make up… ♡
It’s all pretty funny now. I definitely should have been suspicious that Nick would try so hard to do a couple’s shoot the DAY BEFORE we moved, but nothing about this seemed abnormal to me at the time. Nick is the kind of sweet, romantic person to want to savor our time in Flagstaff with photos, but he’s also a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to coordinating events, so really, none of this set off any alarms. I could try to blame the move, Nick’s wrist surgery, or coordinating with friends and family who were helping, but even without all the chaos I really don’t think I would have thought much about it!
In the weeks before, I noticed he was texting you quite a bit! At one point I asked what was going on – Were you doing okay? Was something wrong? He doesn’t normally text that much! He looked like he had been caught when I asked. The emotions I saw run across his face were, in this order: surprise, panic, and disappointment. Then he told me he was planning on surprising me for our anniversary with a couple’s shoot! And of course I fell for it.
The whole shoot was amazing, and you did a wonderful job scouting out the most perfect places to have sweet moments together. When we got to the last spot on the hill, I was definitely confused. You were looking around, searching for ways to shoot that wouldn’t get others in the shot and still get the scenery, but there was definitely something else happening. I saw you look at Nick a few times but, again, I naively thought you were just thinking really hard! When you asked me to turn away from Nick, looking toward a tree, while Nick looked at you, I was VERY confused. I remember thinking, “These are going to be awful pictures! I have no idea what Sam is trying to accomplish here but I’m just going to smile and pretend it’s cool… but gosh I do not think this is cool!”
and then you told me to turn around.
Finding Nick on his knee brought me to tears instantly.
We are going to cherish these photos and the moments you captured within them forever.”
♡
Anna and Nick, I love you dearly and wish you the happiest of lives together!
So Nick had wrist surgery the day before, which meant that all day long he had to keep his wrist held raised above his heart.
Meaning that fist pump…turned into him just holding his hand hilariously in the air. 🙂
