I’d love for you to check out Chelsea + Kevin’s winter Mogollon Rim engagement photos! They even included their dogs!
These two chose to take a day trip to Payson, Arizona for their engagement session! The Mogollon (Mog-gee-yawn) Rim is this huge geographical feature that cuts across Northern Arizona, but you can view the overlook easily in Payson. This outdoor playground has rocks, pine trees, and lakes nearby. We stuck to the overlook and the pine tree forest directly next to it.
I love it when my couples bring their dogs to join in on their engagement session! However, I typically recommend they bring along a friend to help watch the dogs if we’re not expecting them to be in every photo. This also really depends on where we go for the engagement pictures too – the desert is a dangerous place and your dog may not be able to come along safely.
Chelsea + Kevin kept their dogs away from the edge of the rim of course, and they were well behaved and nobody else was around so we let them off-leash. The biggest key when including your dogs is to just love on them, be silly, and cuddly.
Often in the winter, the roads with access to the Mogollon Rim in Payson close to car traffic. That was the case for us on this day, but we were still able to access the view of the Rim overlook by the visitor center. While the visitor center itself was closed, there were bathrooms and this small overlook.
The Rim is huge – it’s 200 miles long and stretches into New Mexico. Where I find it easy to visit is around the visitor center off highway 260 and Old Rim Road, as well as across the highway on Rim Road. This is a pretty easy drive from Phoenix! Here you can take in the views off of Payson’s Mogollon Rim with little to no hiking involved. There’s lots of different spots — the one we went with had big pine trees framing our view. However, there’s also lots of areas you can go without any trees blocking your view. Either way, you’re on the edge of a cliff so there will likely be wind!
That’s all for now! Hope you enjoy!
