We headed to the Salt River in Mesa, AZ for Mack and Chrystian’s Coon Bluff engagement photos! There’s a lot of awesome recreation sites along the salt river, but this one gives us easy access to both grass and trees and classsic desert vibes. While there’s lots of hiking options, this photo location is an easy short walk from the parking lot.
Ultimately, all year long is a good time to visit the Salt River or use it as a backdrop for photos. There’s lots of options so you’re bound to find somewhere great.
In the late spring and summer, crowds are high as people float down the river in tubes. They’ll also set up chairs along the edge of the river to cool down. Parking lots will be full. And of course it’ll be extremely hot! The grass is dead (as seen here), and river levels tend to be higher, covering up the rocky shores.
Crowds of other people wanting photos has its height in the fall! Temperatures finally cool down and clients want to take advantage. Families also want their yearly holiday card photos. Avoid fall if you want to avoid crowds. Going at sunrise is always a great way to avoid these crowds.
Shorter, green grass, but trees will likely be bare in the early spring. Lower water levels mean we can play on the smooth rock shores by the river! The weather is great and crowds are low.
Mackenzie and Chrystian had their session just before salt river tubing became popular in late spring, but we stayed away from the water and campers and got the spots we used to ourselves! Scroll through to check out their engagement session!
